Tech Track Finishes Tenth At ACCs

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – After three full days of competition on the campus of the University of Virginia, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams finished the ACC Championships in 10th place

The men finished with 26 points at the end of competition, adding another 16 points to the total on the final day while the women recorded 32 total points, 20 on day three.

Julienne McKee added another five point to Tech’s total with her fourth place leap in the triple jump of 12.99m (42-7.5). Following behind McKee was Jhanelle McLeod who finished with a launch of 12.79m (41-11.5).

On the men’s side, Jonathan Gardner took fifth in the triple jump adding four points to Tech’s total with a leap of 15.21m (49-11), an outdoor personal best for the sophomore. Mykhail Chambers added another point to Tech’s total with an eighth place finish in the high jump leaping 2.08m (6-9.75).

On the track, Stephanie Kalu took home seventh in the 100m dash finals with a time of 11.78 seconds while Melanie Akwule took sixth in the 100m hurdles finals with a time of 13.64 seconds. Jasmine Isley also participated in a hurdles final running in the 400m hurdles and upping her seventh place preliminary finish to a fourth place, 1:00.09 finals finish.

On the men’s side, Antonio McKay, Jr. finished eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 48.94 seconds while Rick Scheff took home sixth in the 800m dash with a time of 1:50.50.

The 4x100m relay teams also added some points to the Tech total. On the women’s side, Akwule, Jamilah Middlebrooks, Christina Pensock and Kalu combined for a time of 46.41 seconds, good enough for sixth place. The men’s team of Perron Jones, McKay, Gardner, and Michael Simms took fourth place with a time of 41.54 seconds.

The Jackets will be back in action next week at the World Famous Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The relays will run from April 26-28.
