ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will kick-off its 2008 outdoor season at the Wake Forest Open Friday-Saturday at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Yellow Jackets will join over 1400 athletes scheduled to compete at this weekend’s meet. The host Demon Deacons will headline a large contingent of Division I programs including North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Duke, Cornell, Virginia Commonwealth and Army.
“After coming up just short of our goal of top-25 at the Indoor Nationals, finishing 29th, we are anxious to get outside and begin preparation for a promising outdoor campaign,” women’s head coach Alan Drosky said. “We are still not as healthy as we have hoped, but continue to make progress in that area. Because of that, and because of the long indoor season, we’ll sit a few of our women out of this first meet. But all in all, the women who are competing at Wake Forest are looking for some quality early-season marks.”
The meet will get underway Friday at 10 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. with the men’s and women’s hurdle prelims. Saturday’s schedule opens with the men’s pole vault at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude at 5:40 p.m. with the men’s and women’s 4×400-meter relay.
Results will be posted at the conclusion of each day on ramblinwreck.com.
The Jackets return to Atlanta next weekend when they host the Yellow Jacket Invitational Friday-Saturday, March 28-29. This will mark the first of three meets Tech will host at the George C. Griffin Track this outdoor season.
