Tech Track Completes Day One At Vanderbilt Invite

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Georgia Tech track and field team completed the first day of competition Friday at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Nine men’s teams and 11 women’s teams, including three Top 25 teams on the men’s side and two on the women’s side, competed on the first day of the meet.

Tech junior Nikita Kirillov took third in the pole vault with a height of 5.05m (16-06.75).

Also in the field events, Julienne McKee placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 5.92m (19-05.25), while freshman Carissa Tipler improved her long jump mark to 5.39m (17-08.25; 21st place).

On the track, Kelly Meyer finished the 5,000 meters in 14th place in a season-best time of 17:36.98 and Allison Brackin followed in 15th place with a time of 17:42.14, while freshman Melissa Fairey and sophomore Kaylee Isaacs finished 17th and 18th (PR; 17:47.00), respectively.

For the men, Austen Gutierrez finished the 5,000 meters in ninth in a time of 15:19.81 and Chance Eldredge took 10th with a time of 15:23.72.

The Jackets kick off day two of competition Saturday at 11 a.m. with the women’s triple, wrapping up the meet with the men’s 4×400-meter relay at 4:50 p.m.
