Tech Track and Field Posts Five Wins on Day Two of Rod McCravy Memorial

LEXINGTON, Ky. and FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Georgia Tech men and women’s track teams combined for five individual wins Saturday at the Rod McCravy Memorial Track & Field Meet at Kentucky’s Nutter Field House, while juniors Amy Dock and Katie Griffin competed in the 3000 meters at Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational.

Leading the way at Kentucky was junior Chris Crawley, who won the long jump (23’04.50″) and the triple jump, posting a season-best mark of 48’01.25″. Other wins for the men came from freshman Brian Ford, who placed first in the 400 meters in 47.64, and sophomore Kyle Rabbitt, who claimed the victory in the 3000 meters in a season-best time of 8:26.18.

Freshman Zeb Sion placed third in the shot put with a season-best toss of 56’04.50″, while senior Joe Stegall was third in the mile, also with a season-best of 4:13.32.

As for the women, junior Jessica DeFreitas won the long jump with a mark of 18’04.50″. Freshman teammate Dana Rogers placed second. Other strong performances for the women came from freshman Shanta Smith, who was second in the 400 meters (56.49), and senior Sara Pardue, who placed second in the 800 meters (2:11.91).

In Arkansas, Dock placed second in the seeded 3000 meters in a time of 9:40.35, while Griffin placed fourth in 9:49.03.

Tech is now off until the ACC Championships, which begin in two weeks in Chapel Hill, N.C.
