Tech Track and Field Opens Outdoor Campaign this Weekend at Texas A&M, Auburn

ATLANTA – Coming off a very successful indoor season, the Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field teams will open the 2002 outdoor season this weekend, competing at Texas A&M’s College Station Multi-Event Festival and Auburn’s Springtime Invitational.

At Texas A&M, three Jackets will compete in the decathlon. Junior Scott Carlton, freshman Greg McCormick and sophomore David Smith will each compete in the Silver Decathlon, which begins Thursday with five events and concludes Friday with the final five.

The rest of the team competing this weekend will head to Auburn for the Springtime Invitational. This meet opens Friday at 3 p.m. with the women and men’s hammer throw. Action Saturday opens at 10 a.m. with the javelin and concludes with the second section of the men’s 3000 meters at 7:10 p.m. Friday.

Following this weekend’s meets, the Jackets will head to Tallahassee, Fla., for the FSU Relays, which open on Friday, March 22. Tech competes at home on April 6 in the Yellow Jacket Invitational and May 16-18 in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
