Tech Track and Field Heads to Niswonger Invitational

Jan. 20, 2005

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Niswonger Invitational, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21-22. The indoor track meet can be followed via live stats at Flash Results.

“It has been a few years since we have made our way to Johnson City,” said men’s track head coach Grover Hinsdale. “It has always been a great meet and this year looks like no exception. Based on what we accomplished last week in Lexington, I feel very good about this weekend’s competition.”

“This meet was a fixture on our schedule for quite a while, before a long layoff,” said women’s track head coach Alan Drosky. “The facility is excellent and the competition will be challenging. We’ll have an opportunity to compete against ACC foes North Carolina, Florida State, and Wake Forest; so we’re excited about that. After a solid first meet at Kentucky, our goal is to keep improving from week to week.”

Junior NCAA national champion Chaunte Howard is coming off an NCAA Automatic qualifying performance at the Kentucky Invitational last weekend. The Riverside, Calif., native finished first in the women’s high jump with a mark of 6’1.50″.

Posting NCAA Provisional marks for the Yellow Jackets last weekend were seniors Zeb Sion and Dana Rogers, along with freshman Shantia Moss.

Sion broke the Tech school record in the men’s shot put with a NCAA mark of 58’7.50″.

Rogers improved her NCAA Provisional time in the women’s 60-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 8.27. Moss tallied a NCAA Provisional time of 8.43 in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles, finishing third in the finals.
