Tech Tops First-Place Tar Heels

 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Georgia Tech softball (21-12, 4-4 ACC) bounced back on Saturday afternoon to even the series against the Tar Heels (16-11, 6-2 ACC) with a 13-5 win on the road. Powered by four home runs from three different bats, junior Brooke Barfield came away with the win in the circle for the Yellow Jackets.

In the top of the second, sophomore Breanna Roper rips one over left field for a three-run home run, plating juniors Drew Puckett and Rebecca Prairie and giving Tech the 5-1 lead.

With the 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth, Roper leads off with a stand-up double to reach base. Senior Katie Krzus knocks Tech’s third homer of the game over center field, scoring Roper and moving the tally to 8-1.

 

With the 9-5 lead in the top of the seventh, sophomore Cameron Stanford singled to right center to score Krzus and push the score to 10-5.

The Jackets face the Tar Heels in the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
