THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field opens the 2023 outdoor season with its Yellow Jacket Invite that will take place on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 18 at the George C. Griffin Track & Field facility.
The meet will begin with hammer throw at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, competition will kick off at 12 p.m. with the high jump.
During the indoor season, Tech earned an NCAA qualification, ACC individual title, two ACC bronze medals and four All-ACC honors. A major standout for the Jackets has been Shanty Papakosta, who claimed the ACC Championship title and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the women’s high jump.
Several experienced athletes are predicted to perform well for Tech during outdoor competition. John Watkins, Jamir Gibson, Taylor Grimes and Lydia Troupe head into this season after seeing prior success at the conference meet and on the national level in the field events last year.
In the running events, Tech will likely be led by some of its top indoor performers including Jameson Miller and Riley Perlakowski. Much of the team is made up of mid distance and distance runners. Standouts within that large group of athletes include top performers from indoor and last season such as James Cragin, Zach Jaeger, Parker Buchheit, Helena Lindsay, Liz Galarza and Kayla Rose.
