Tech Tames Bulldogs, 5-2

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis dominated proceedings on Sunday winning the five singles matches that were played for a 5-0 victory.

The doubles point started with Andres Martin and Keshav Chopra winning their match on court one against Sheomake/Bencedic, 6-1. Court two saw Chen Dong and Ángel Guerrero Melgar drop their doubles match to Robins/Kamienicki, 6-3.

Tech did not field a third doubles team and forfeited the third match giving The Citadel the doubles point.

Singles action started with a double bagel from Guerrero Melgar winning his match against Andrew Darby 6-0, 6-0.

“I kept my attitude and intensity high. After winning the first set I thought I would try to not lose any points,” Melgar said.

Close behind Melgar was Martin who took his singles match 6-2, 6-0 to give the Jackets a 2-1 lead.

The Yellow Jackets continued their dominance in singles with Pablo Schelcher taking his match 6-4, 6-0 over Robins, followed by Dong over Kamienicki 6-2, 6-2 and ending with a win by Chopra 7-6(2), 6-2.

The sixth singles match was forfeited by Georgia Tech bringing the score to 5-2.

The White and Gold travel to Charlottesville, Va. for the ITA Kickoff weekend on Jan. 29-30.
