Tech Takes Fourth, Seventh At Clemson Invite

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Georgia Tech cross country team left the Clemson Invite with a fourth and seventh place finish on Friday night. The men earned the higher spot thanks to a 10th place finish by junior Patrick Barron, while the women earned the seventh place finish.

Barron crossed the line first for the Yellow Jackets with a finish of 24:41.72, less than a minute behind first place finisher Ty McCormack of Clemson (23:56.72). Following right behind him were teammates D.J. McMillan (12th place, 24:44.77) and Shawn Roberts(19th place, 24:47.51).

Rounding out the scorers were Niall Longobardi (42nd place, 25:34.73) and Obiandu Igwe(53rd place, 25:38.46).

The Florida State men took the team title tallying just 28 points on the night.

On the women’s side of things, Jemeli Sang of USC-Upstate earned the individual honors with a 20:42.88 finish while the host team of the Clemson women earned the team title on the day. Katie Vance, in her first collegiate meet was the first Jacket to cross the line with a time of 222:44.22 in 39th place.

Coming across behind her was another newcomer, Katie Townsend who finished in 42nd place in 22:47.38. Freshman Kelly Meyer took third amongst Jacket runners with a 49th place, 23:09.51 finisah while Megan Breitbach (53rd place, 23:29.18) and Lauren Young(56th place, 23:43.72) rounded out the scorers.

The Tech women finished seventh overall at the meet with a total of 189 points.

Tech is back in action in a couple of weeks at the Charlotte Invitational in Charlotte, N.C. on September 30. The women will once again begin things with a 4 p.m. start time while the men will take to the course at 4:30 p.m.
