Tech Takes Down Clemson, 4-1

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (10-7, 1-2 ACC) started its week of competition with an impressive 4-1 win over conference opponent, Clemson (9-6, 0-3 ACC).

Tech dominated in doubles, going 2-0 and earning the first point of the match. Keshav Chopra and Rohan Sachdev took down Clemson’s Max Smith and Nini Dica in an easy 6-2 decision. No. 15 Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel were tied at 3-3 before coming back with a 6-4 win over Clemson’s Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker.

Despite starting singles play with a loss, Tech claimed three-straight victories to earn the 4-1 team win.

In a quick 6-3, 6-4 decision, No. 74 Chopra defeated Clemson’s Whitaker to put the Jackets up 2-1. Elias Shokry earned himself a two-set victory over Nini Dica, dominating the first set 6-1 and closing out the match with a 7-5 win in the second.

Robert Bauer ultimately clinched the team victory for the Jackets. Bauer started off his match with a 6-4 win in the first set. Forced into a tiebreak round, the freshman came out on top with a hard fought 7-6 [8-6] victory in the second set and led the Jackets to their first conference win of the season.
