Tech Swimming and Diving Sweeps Hometown Foe Emory

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men and women’s swimming and diving teams each defeated Emory University Saturday at the Eagles’ Woodruff P.E. Center. The Yellow Jacket men won, 136-96, while the women were victorious 127-113.

Tech’s men improve to 3-1 (1-1 ACC) with the win, while the Jacket women are now 4-3 (0-2 ACC).

Freshman Cara DeVinny posted wins in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke, while finishing second in the 200 free to lead the women’s squad. Classmate Amy Sutton also won a pair of events, claiming wins in the one-meter and three-meter diving. Other individual event winners for the Jackets were Anna Saum (200 IM), Sara Gilli (100 free) and Lisa Hancock (200 back).

Tech’s women were also a winners in both the 400 medley and freestyle relays.

On the men’s side, Tech spread the wealth with nine different Jackets posting wins. Sophomore diver Paul McCarty led the way with wins in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Tech opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay and never looked back. Sophomore Ricky Rauch won the 1,000 free, while junior All-American Shilo Ayalon took the 200 freestyle and junior James Salazar claimed the win in the 200 IM.

Other wins for the Yellow Jackets came from senior Brady Skaggs in the 200 fly, sophomore Brendan Forbes in the 100 free, junior Jorge Oliver in the 200 back and freshman Matt Figh in the 500 free. Sophomore Chris Biedrzycki finished first in the 200 breast, which he swam as an exhibition.

Tech returns to action Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at the Georgia Fall Invitational in Athens, Ga.
