Tech Swimming and Diving Set to Tangle with Cross-town Rival Emory

Nov. 15, 2001

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving program continues its season Saturday with a match-up with cross-town foe Emory University at the Eagles’ Woodruff P.E. Center. Action will begin at 11 a.m.

The Yellow Jacket men’s program enters the meet with a 2-1 (1-1 ACC) record, while the women are currently 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Both teams defeated American University in their last outing.

Emory’s men and women are each off to a perfect start this season. Both teams are coming off first-place finishes at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. The men are 2-0 in dual meets, while the women are 3-0.

This season marks the 78th meeting of the schools’ men’s teams with Tech holding a 73-4 advantage. The men defeated Emory, 136-91, a year ago. This meet will be the first match-up between the women’s squads, as the 2001-02 season is the first-ever for Georgia Tech women’s team.

“Emory University is one of the top Division III programs in the country,” said Tech head coach Seth Baron. “They are going to present a good challenge for our women’s team to put up a strong lineup, event by event.”

“They have a lot of talented and strong swimmers on the men’s side. This meet will allow us to see many of our swimmers compete in events that we need to evaluate to continue improving our race strategy and technique as we build toward the ACC Championships in February.”
