ATLANTA – Fresh off a month-long break, which included a training trip to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., the Georgia Tech men and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to action at Alabama Saturday at 1 p.m.
This competition should prove to be a tough test for the Jackets, as both Crimson Tide squads are nationally-ranked. Alabama’s men are ranked 15th, while the women stand at 19th.
“We are excited about our meet this weekend,” said Tech head coach Seth Baron. “Both the men and women’s teams at Alabama are ranked in the top 25 and will provide us a great opportunity to race and to continue our preparations for the ACC Championships.”
Tech’s men (3-1, 1-1 ACC) are currently ranked No. 25 in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America poll, while the first-year women’s program is 4-3 and 0-2 in conference action.
Last time out, the men’s team placed sixth at the ultra-competitive Georgia Invitational. The Yellow Jacket women finished ninth.
After more than a month of training, including the stint at the USOC Training Center, the Jackets are anxious to begin the stretch run to the ACC and NCAA Championships.
“This meet is the beginning of four straight weekends of competition, which will include two SEC opponents in Alabama and Georgia, as well as two ACC rivals in Clemson and NC State,” adds Baron. “We should learn a lot about our teams as we quickly approach the ACC Championships in late February.”
Following Saturday’s meet, Tech will host Clemson at Emory’s Woodruff P.E. Center on January 19.
