TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams suffered their first losses of the season Saturday, as Florida State swept the Jackets at the Bim Stults Aquatic Center. FSU took the men’s match-up, 144.5-98.5, and the Seminoles defeated the Tech women, 157-80.
The Yellow Jacket men (1-1, 0-1 ACC) posted four victories on the afternoon, a pair of which came from freshmen. Rookie Sam Morgan took first in the 1000 free in a time of 9:23.55, while classmate Yonatan Cohen won the 200 IM in 1:54.35.
Tech’s senior co-captains provided the other two victories, as James Salazar won the 200 back in 1:52.41, and All-American Shilo Ayalon took the 500 free in 4:31.84. Ayalon had a busy afternoon, as he also placed second in the 200 and 1000 free.
Tech’s women (2-1, 0-1 ACC) were led by freshman Ashley Kracke, who won the 200 back in 2:03.72. Her victory was the lone individual win on the women’s side, but several Jackets enjoyed solid performances.
Sophomore Moeko Wallis took second in both the 50 and 100 free, while freshman Meghan DeVinney posted runner-up finishes in both the 200 free and 200 fly. Other second-place finishes came from sophomores Anna Saum (200 back) and Michelle Maguire (500 free).
Tech’s men return to action on Thursday, November 7 against in-state rival Georgia in Athens. The women’s squad is off until traveling to West Lafayette, Ind., for a meeting with Cincinnati and Purdue on November 15-16.
