Tech Student-Athletes Take Part in Career Fair

Dec. 1, 2015

THE FLATS – As part of Georgia Tech’s Total Person Program, student-athletes had the opportunity to think about life after sports during Tuesday’s annual GTAA Career Fair. One hundred fifteen student-athletes attended the two-plus hour event in the museum lobby of the Edge Building.

Individuals representing 13 companies from various industries took part in the career fair, meeting with primarily with junior and senior-level student-athletes (sophomore and freshman participated as well). The event is designed to help student-athletes secure jobs and internships for the coming year as well as prepare student-athletes for the job interview process before graduation rather than after the conclusion of their academic careers.

Among the recruiters that attended the event were former Georgia Tech men’s basketball letterwinner Jon Babul, who is the Director for Basketball Development & Community Sports Program with the Atlanta Hawks, and football letterwinner Jeff Lentz who is a Regional Sales Manager for Bomgar, a remote desktop software company.

The career fair was the apex of Georgia Tech’s month-long career initiative in November to prepare student-athletes with resume, business card, and career preparation workshops.

“We are really proud of our student-athletes and their efforts regarding the career fair,” said Doug Allvine, Assistant AD. “This aspect of the Total Person Program helps the student-athlete determine their career interests. It also is geared to helping them develop resumes, prepare for job interviews, learn how to market themselves in the work force, and assist with internship opportunities and potential full time employment upon completion of their degree.”

The 13 companies in attendance at Tuesday’s career fair were:
• Accenture
• Amendia
• AT&T
• Atlanta Hawks
• Bomgar
• Capstone Financial
• Carter
• Georgia United Credit Union
• McKenneys
• Norfolk Southern
• United Distributors
• GT Pre-Teaching Internship Program
• Campus Recreational Center (CRC)
