THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving program concluded its first day of competition of the weekend. The men’s swim team beat Carson Newman 183-77 and the women defeated Carson Newman 187.5-72.5. The divers competed in the 1 Meter and 3 Meter events against Miami, Florida State and Auburn.
The swimmers swept 11 events, starting off with the women’s 400 medley relay. The first-place team won with a time of 3:47.21, the next team swam a second-place time of 3:47.59 and the third-place group finished with a time of 3:54.25.
In the men’s 1000m, Mert Kilavuz championed the event with a time of 9:03.71. Charles perks placed second (9:21.03) and Sean Santos took home third (9:37.51). Kilavuz (4:29.77) and Perks (4:32.79) also earned the top two spots in the men’s 500 free while Caleb Blischke (4:42.12) claimed third place.
Astrid Dirkzwager (57.08), Kendal Chunn (57.57) and Lindsey Merk (57.88) swept the women’s 100 back. In the men’s 200 back, Nils Bognar was the top performer (1:49.34), Jack Mezzogori (1:51.79) came in second and Simon Davis finished in third (1:51.93).
The Jackets dominated the breaststroke events.
Women’s 100 Breast: 1. Clarissa Sabin (1:04.06), 2. McKenzie Campbell (1:04.64), 3. Claudia Butterfield (1:05.10)
Men’s 100 Breast: 1. Daniel Kertesz (55.89), 2. Julian Killius (56.23), 3. Joao Caballero (56.36)
Women’s 200 Breast: 1. C. Butterfield (2:21.16), 2. C. Sabin (2:23.79), 3. Anne Deedy (2:26.10)
In the women’s 200 fly, Deniz Ertan won with a time of 2:00.75. Rei Kuramoto placed second (2:02.49) and Abby Cohen took home third (2:05.18).
Anna Hadjiloizou led a victorious group in the women’s 50 free with a first-place time of 23.52. Caroline Porterfield followed behind with a second-place finish (24.36) and Kiah Smith finished in third (24.46).
In women’s diving, Anna Bradescu took home fourth in both the 1 Meter (255.30) and 3 Meter events (267.10). Carmen Woodruff finished fifth in the 1 Meter with a score of 252.60.
Ruben Lechuga competed in the men’s 1 Meter event and finished with a fifth-place score of 329.65.
UP NEXT
Tech will be back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 for Senior Day. Swim will take on Gardner-Webb while the divers will continue competition against Miami, Florida State and Auburn.
