Athens, Ga. – Each of Georgia Tech’s players split a pair of singles matches Friday on day 1 of the Bulldog Scramble at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, while Carlos Benito and Nathan Rakitt earned a win in their only doubles match.
Fiegel, a freshman from Alachua, Fla., and Rakitt, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., improved to 5-2 as a doubles team this fall with a 6-4 win over Oklahoma’s Alex Ghilea and Austin Siegel.
Meanwhile, Rakitt rebounded from a straight-set loss in the morning to Vanderbilt’s Rhys Johnson to take a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Ghilea in the afternoon. Likewise, Fiegel lost in straight sets in the morning to the Commodores’ Jeff Offerdahl but captured a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over LSU’s Harrison Kennedy in the afternoon.
Benito, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, fell in straight sets to the Tigers’ Andrew Korinek in the morning, but defeated Furman’s Luke Synn 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 Friday afternoon.
The round-robin event continues Saturday and concludes Sunday.
