Tech Softball Promotes Coursey to Assistant Coach

July 28, 2004

ATLANTA – Former Georgia Tech player Felicia Coursey has been named assistant coach for softball, announced by head coach Ehren Earleywine on Wednesday morning. Coursey, a student assistant last season, will handle the outfielders and assist with recruiting for the Yellow Jackets.

“Felicia will work with our outfielders and will also serve as the recruiting coordinator for us,” said Earleywine. “This is a big responsibility for someone her age, but I have a lot of confidence in her. In the time that I have known her she has always been dependable, hard working, and knowledgeable. She will benefit this program in many ways and I am looking forward to having her aboard.”

Coursey enters her second season on the coaching staff for the Jackets. Last season, Coursey assisted with the infielders and handled some of the administrative duties, while finishing up her degree. She graduated from Tech with a degree in science, technology and culture on May 1, 2004.

A two-year letterwinner for the Yellow Jackets, Coursey finished her career at Tech with the third best fielding percentage all-time, .983, and tops for any middle infielder in the history of the program. The Conyers, Ga., native was part of the school record 52 wins in ’02 and helped lead the Rambling Wreck to the NCAA Regional final and Tech’s only Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in softball.

Before attending Georgia Tech, Coursey was a two-year letterwinner in softball at Young Harris Community College. There she was named the team’s most valuable offensive player in ’01 and was selected to the regional all-tournament team. Coursey was on the Dean’s List in both academic calendars at Young Harris.
