Tech Softball Begins Homestand With Doubleheader Against Samford

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team will begin a three-game homestand on Saturday, March 17, with a doubleheader against the Samford Bulldogs beginning at 2 p.m. at Glenn Field. Admission to the two games is free.

The Yellow Jackets will be looking to return to their winning ways after a difficult stretch of games at the Speedline Invitational in Tampa, Fla., last weekend. Tech fell to Boston University, South Florida and Penn State all in extra innings before breaking out for a 4-2 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. The Jackets finished the week with three wins after sweeping a home doubleheader from Eastern Michigan prior to leaving for Tampa.

Despite the Jackets’ 3-4 record last week, a number of Tech players had strong offensive weeks, including senior Ellen Styer, who hit her second home run of the year against Penn State and finished the seven-game set with a .571 batting average, a triple and four RBI. Fellow fourth-year performer Jennifer Biggers also had a strong week, as she recorded a .411 batting average and is the current team leader in hitting with a .321 average on the season.

Freshman Soraya Reddick recorded the top game of her rookie season versus Tennessee Tech, as she recorded her first career home run and went a perfect 3-for-3 in the game, driving in all four of the Yellow Jackets’ runs in the contest.

Following its games with Samford, Tech will host Arkansas on Wednesday for a single game beginning at 4 p.m., prior to hosting the 2001 Buzz Classic at the Al Bishop Softball Complex in Marietta, Ga.
