Tech Runs Well In Day Two of Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the Meyo Invitational tonight in South Bend, Ind. in the Meyo Indoor Track and Field facility. Senior Michael Massey (Asheboro, N.C.) and sophomore All-American Chaunte Howard (Riverside, Calif.) continued their dominance in the high jump this indoor season with first-place finishes, tallying marks of 6’11.50″ and 6’1.50″, respectively.

Also posting first place finishes for the Yellow Jackets was junior Dana Rogers (East Point, Ga.) and freshman Ashlee Kidd (St. Petersburg, Fla.). Rogers tallied a first-place time of 8.40 in the 60-meter hurdles, while Kidd bettered her NCAA provisional time in the 400 meters, posting a season-best mark of 53.62.

Other Jackets with top performances in the 60mH was junior Montrell Person (Merriville, Ind.) and sophomore Andriane Lapsley (San Antonio, Texas). Person finished third in the men’s 60mH with a time of 7.93, while Lapsley took fourth place in the women’s heat with a time of 8.67.

Senior All-American Brendon Mahoney (Cumming, Ga.) posted a NCAA provisional time of 4:02.32 in the mile to finish eighth for the Jackets.

Reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Week Shanta Smith (Miami, Fla.) tallied a second place finish for Tech in the triple jump with a mark of 43’2.25″. Teammate Brandy Depland (Katy, Texas) registered a fourth-place finish in the event with a jump of 41’10.50″.

Leading the way for the Rambling Wreck in the shot put were juniors Zeb Sion (Pocatello, Idaho) and Jonathan Spillman (Austin, Texas). Sion finished second with a toss of 55’11.75″, while Spillman finished fifth with a throw of 51’2.25″.

Senior sprinter Amandi Rhett (Willingboro, N.J.) recorded a second and third-place finish in the 60- and 200-meter dashes for the Yellow Jackets. Rhett ran the 200 meters in 24.01 and the 60 meters in 7.46. Junior Ameca Williams (Jamaica W.I.) finished fourth for Tech in the 200 meters with a time of 24.37.

Junior transfer Holt McPherson (Mebane, N.C.) led Tech in the long jump with a third-place finish, tallying a jump of 24’4.25″.

Senior Kyle Rabbitt (Red Oak, Ga.) and freshman Jennifer Sims (Woodstock, Ga.) rounded out top performances for Tech at the track meet. Rabbit finished eighth in the 3000 meters with a season-best time of 8:11.00, while Sims finished 10th with a season-best time of 2:11.30 in the 800 meters.

Tech will travel to Clemson, S.C. for the Tiger Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 14 for its final meet before the ACC Championships on Feb. 20-21.
