ATLANTA — Georgia Tech cross country runners Phillip Gable and Becky Megesi each won Atlantic Coast Conference performer of the week honors, respectively, for Oct. 24, the conference office announced Monday.
Megesi, a junior from Jonesboro, Ga., captured her third consecutive individual championship this season as she led the Yellow Jackets to the team title in the Troy State Invitational last Saturday. She completed the 4,000-meter race in a time of 14:44. Megesi previously won the Georgia Intercollegiate Championship womens title on Oct. 3 and the Furman Invitational Oct. 10. She also led the team to wins in those events as well. She had not won an individual title in her previous two seasons before breaking through this year. This was the second time Megesi has been honored by the conference this season.
Gable, a junior from Kennesaw, Ga., helped the mens team to its third win in its last four races. He finished fourth in the 5,000-meter Troy State Invitational in a time of 15:46. It marked the second time Gable was the teams leader this year and that he captured league performer of the week honors.
Tech will next be in action on Nov. 2 at the ACC Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
