ATLANTA – On the final day of the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational at the George C. Griffin Track Facility, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s relay squads took home three victories in six events to wrap up the weekend meet.
The women’s 4×100 meter relay team of Jasmine Isley, Jenae Anderson, Taylor Davidson and Leslie Njoku started off the day with a victory, impressing with a time of 45.75. The men’s sprint squad went up against some tough competition pulling off a fourth place victory while crossing in 41.64.
The women’s 4×800 meter relay squad continued the success as the foursome of Jamie VanTassell, Jade Sims, Maureen McMeekin and Mary Kownack overtook Georgia State on the final lap to cross with the 9:21.43 victory.
The men’s 3200 meter relay squad also earned the victory. Alec Clifford, Morgan Stephenson, Mark Mendrek-Laske and Shawn Roberts easily took first place, beating their closest competitor by over 13 seconds for the 7:39.14 win.
In the final race of the day, the 4×400 meter relay, the Georgia Tech women took second while the men crossed in third place. The women’s squad finished with a time of 3:49.50, while the men crossed the line in 3:22.46.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next Friday, March 25 at the Griffin Facility when Tech hosts the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The meet will kick off with the weight throw on Friday at 6 p.m., but the majority of the events will take place on Saturday.
