Tech Prepares for Pepsi Florida Relays

by Jack Oliaro

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams return to the sunshine state for the 2026 Pepsi Florida Relays from April 3-4.

Pepsi Florida Relays

The Jackets’ weekend will begin on Friday at 3:30 p.m. as Tahir Hines competes in the hammer throw before Tech takes on the high jump and long jump events in the field. Claire Shelton will headline the squad on the track in the 1500m race following the 400m hurdles at 5:25 p.m.

Saturday will start with the discus event at 9 a.m. as the triple jump opens at 12:45 p.m. On the track, Tech will race in the 100m hurdles, 800m, 400m, and 100m events to close out the relays.

Tech opened the outdoor season with a bang as Hines set the men’s hammer throw program record at 64.00m at the Terry Long FSU Relays before distance runner Billy Carlton broke the 39-year program record in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at 8:38.49.

The Jackets’ two program records set in just the second weekend of the outdoor season marks just the fourth and fifth program records set for the men this decade. Both records fell on the same day.

Other notable performances from last weekend included Taylor Wade’s first sub-14-minute time set in the men’s 5000m at 13:59.47, just one of four Tech athletes to accomplish the feat while Lottie Chappell ran 4:19.03 in the women’s 1500m to become the third fastest Jacket in the record book in the event. Senior Joey Sandel also ran the fifth-fastest 10,000m program time at 29:45.32.

Full Steam Ahead
