Tech Holds Court at Day One of GT Invite

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis held its first home action of the season on Friday. Tech played three doubles matches and four singles matches on the day.

Every doubles pairing and singles player for the Yellow Jackets came away with a win on the day. Chen Dong and Ángel Guerrero Melgar formed the doubles pairing to have two matches on the day. Dong/Guerrero Melgar dropped their first match against Tortora/Malesavic, 6-3, before beating Lazo/Tymes of Georgia State, 6-4.

Pablo Schlecher and Keshav Chopra beat the pairing of Broska/Ramskogler of Mississippi State, 6-3, to wrap up the doubles action for the Jackets.

The White and Gold went unbeaten in singles action beating three Bulldogs on the day. Dong defeated Carles Hernandez, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, Chopra bested Alberto Colas, 7-6(8), 6-1 and Schelcher beat Nemanja Malesavic, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. All three players hail from Mississippi State.

The final singles victory for Tech came by the way of a 7-5, 6-2 victory by Guerrero Melgar over Diego Padilha of Georgia State.

Action continues tomorrow with day two of the GT Invite at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. Matches will start at 11 a.m.
