ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team will put its three-game winning streak on the line at the Georgia State Tournament this weekend, Feb. 21-22, in Panthersville, Ga. The Yellow Jackets will face Georgia State (0-0) and Eastern Kentucky (3-2) on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and Tennessee State (1-1) on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. The consolation game will begin at 2:30 p.m., followed by the championship game at 4:45 p.m.

“Although this weekend doesn’t present any top-ranked opponents, we take no one lightly,” said head coach Ehren Earleywine. “It all starts with Georgia State on Saturday and I am sure they’ll be pitching their ace left-hander who can beat anybody at any time. After that, it will be a steady dose of teams who would love nothing more than to beat Georgia Tech. We have to stay committed to our game and what we do. In that, we have much confidence.”

The Jackets received five votes in the latest NFCA/USA Today Top 25 poll released this past Wednesday. Leading Tech offensively is senior All-American Tara Knudsen (Thornton, Colo.). Knudsen is hitting .600, with two home runs, four RBIs, a double and a triple. She also leads the team with 10 free passes this season.

Senior Erin Voeltz (Westlake, Calif.) and junior Jessica Sallinger (Kennesaw, Ga.) have dominated the opposition thus far on the mound. The two have allowed a microscopic 0.54 runs per game and have three shutouts to their credit this season. Sallinger registered a no-hitter against Louisiana-Monroe back on Feb. 7 and leads the team with 24 strikeouts in 19.0 innings pitched. Voeltz has tallied 21 strikeouts in 19.0 innings pitched.

Sophomore Lauren Schlechte (St. Louis, Mo.) has also been a major contributor to the Jacket offense. Schlechte ranks second on the team with a .467 batting average. She has driven in four runs and has two doubles and one home run through six games.
