Tech has top three finishes at Alexander/Asics Invitational

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech cross country competed at the Alexander/Asics Invitational on Saturday. The men’s team finished second while the women’s team finished third.

The men’s side had six of the first 36 finishers in the 8k race. David Reteneller (10th, 25:49.65), Alex Thomas (12th, 25:54.31), Harrison Morris (14th, 26:00.49), Charlie Smith (28th, 26:13.55), Tristan Autry (35th, 26:20.43) and Mac Bloodworth (36th, 26:22.06) all finished within 33.59 seconds of each other.

The women’s side had five of the top 38 runners in the 5k race including the winner of the women’s race Sarah Copeland (17:38.14). Following her were Gillian Filer (18:48.78), Ashley Sechrest (19:03.88), Erin Fegans (19:05.27) and Clay McKnight (19:22.99).

Unattached Georgia Tech runners had a good showing. Reagan Mahoney clocked in at 18:44.77 in the 5k and Myles Collins clocked in at 25:38.11. Collins’ time was good for the eighth best time among all runners.

The next meet for the Jackets is the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pa. on Sept. 15. This is the final meet before the ACC Championships in South Bend, Ind. on Oct. 29.
