Tech Finishes Strong at John Cade Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis concluded fall tournament play on Sunday collecting five singles wins at the John Cade Invitational. Three Yellow Jackets went undefeated in singles action during the three-day tournament.

Sophomore Ava Hrastar kept her weekend record unblemished, including doubles action, pocketing a hard-fought straight-set win over Anaelle LeClercq-Ficher from Ole Miss. The No. 65-ranked Yellow Jacket came out on top of a two-hour opening set battle that came down to the wire against LeClerq-Ficher, wining the first set in a tiebreaker, 10-8. Hrastar sealed the win taking the second set, 7-5.

Also remaining undefeated in singles play were Mahak Jain and Rosie Garcia Gross. The Yellow Jackets wrapped up a successful tournament weekend with Sunday victories. Jain challenged host Mississippi State’s Tamara Racine in the final match, and handled the Spartan in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

Meanwhile, Garcia Gross split the first two sets against Elysia Pool of Ole Miss, 6-4, 5-7, leaving the match to be decided in a third set. The junior Yellow Jacket cruised to victory in the final set against Pool, 6-0, to take home her third singles win of the weekend.

Gia Cohen and Kate Sharabura also recorded wins on Sunday as Cohen rolled past Dolavee Tumthong of Memphis, 6-0, 6-2, while freshman Sharabura defeated Xavier’s Anna Smith, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
