Tech Finishes Day 1 of the Tom Jones Memorial Meet

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field conclude its first day of competition at Florida’s Tom Jones Memorial with several new personal best marks.

Tech started the day with performances from Jamir Gibson and Omar Arnaout in their respective field events. Gibson threw a new PR in the men’s hammer throw (55.80m/183-1), finishing in eighth place. Arnaout earned an impressive third-place finish in the men’s high jump with a mark of 2.04 meters (6-8.25).

In the running events, Tech performed well in the men’s and women’s 1500m. Nick Nyman led the men with a 13th place and personal-best time of 3:47.05. Chris Cherono finished in 17th place (3:49.40, PR) and Myles Collins followed behind him in 18th place (3:49.61). On the women’s side, Gracie Marston was the first Jacket to cross the finish line in 26th place, running a personal-best time of 4:34.24.

Georgia Tech will resume competition tomorrow with the men’s discus at 10 a.m.
