THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball (15-11, 4-9 ACC) fell to No. 10 Pittsburgh (24-1, 12-1 ACC) in three on Friday night in O’Keefe Gymnasium.

Tech grabbed the first lead of the match but the Panthers tied the set at 7-7 before taking a one-point edge. Senior Lauren Frerking tallied a kill to tie the set at 8-8 but a 7-1 run by Pitt forced the Jackets to call timeout, trailing 14-9. The Jackets weren’t able to get back into the set and the Panthers pocketed the first set at 25-12 for the 1-0 lead.
Tech fell behind early in the second set, calling its first timeout with the score at 13-6. The Panthers pushed their lead to eight at 16-8 but the Jackets brought it back within five at 16-11 on a block from sophomore Dominque Washington and junior Kodie Comby. Pitt pushed back out to lead 20-12 and Tech called its second timeout. The Jackets battled back to bring the score within four at 22-18 and the Panthers called their first timeout of the match. Pittsburgh only gave up one more point and Tech dropped the second set 25-19 to give Pitt the 2-0 advantage.
The third set got off to a close start, tying their way to a score of 6-6. Tech took an edge at 7-6 on a kill from freshman Mariana Brambilla but the Panthers went on a 9-0 run to take a commanding lead at 15-7 and Tech called timeout. Frerking combined with freshman Matti McKissock on a block to end Pitt’s run. The Panthers moved the score to 17-8 but the Jackets took four in a row, sparked by back-to-back kills from Frerking to come back within five at 17-12. Tech kept battling but were unable to overcome the deficit the Pittsburgh took the third set at 25-19 for the 3-0 win.

The Jackets finish out the weekend on Sunday, Nov. 4, facing off against Virginia at 12 p.m. in O’Keefe Gymnasium. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
