Tech Falls to Archrival Georgia

ATHENS, GA – Georgia Tech swimming and diving fall short against archrival Georgia. The men through 32 events came up short with a score of 100 to Georgia’s 198. On the women’s side, they would fall 109 to Georgia’s 189. 

Despite the loss, Tech did earn many first-place and top-three finishes. Max Fowler continued his strong season in the 1- and 3-meter. Rueben Lechuga also found success, placing second in the men’s 3-meter, and third on the 1-meter. Three Yellow Jackets ended the day with second place finishes — Nils Bognar, Joao Caballero,and Mert Kilavuz. In the men’s 1000 free, Kilavuz recorded a time of 9:03.46, while Bognar finished with a time of 1:49.83 in the men’s 200 IM. Caballero then finishes with second-place times in two events the 200 breast (2:02.68) and the 100 breast (55.47) 

On the women’s side, several first-place finishes came out of Wednesday’s meet. Sabyne Brisson championed both the 100 breast (1:02.31) and 200 breast (2:15.35). In the 400 free relay, Tech’s team of Sophie Murphy, Zora Ripkova, Jillian Ferrari, and Sabina Mrzyglod finished in first with a time of 3:27.69 and the Jackets’ second team of Caroline Porterfield, Vivien Rothwell, Kiah Smith, and Caroline Pape finished with a second-place time of 3:30.61.  

Rounding out Tech’s podium finishes would be McKenzie Campbell and Lindsey Merk in the women’s 200 fly. Campbell finished with a first-place time of 2:01.87, followed by Merk with a time of 2:05.05. 

UP NEXT:  

Georgia Tech will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 13 as they travel across town to take on the Emory Eagles.
