COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Georgia Tech softball team takes on the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday at 11 a.m. at Maryland Softball Stadium. The contest will air on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks and ESPN3 with Mike Hogewood and Cheri Kempf on the call.
Georgia Tech enters the contest as the eighth seed, and posted a 23-23 regular season record and an 11-17 mark in ACC play. Florida State is the top seed, and enters the tournament 47-6 overall and 24-3 in ACC play.
The Seminoles swept the Jackets in both teams’ regular season finale in Tallahassee. Tech’s overall tournament record is 33-30. Georgia Tech has never been the eighth seed in the ACC Tournament.
Georgia Tech is 6-12 all-time against Florida State in the ACC Tournament and has won the last four matchups in the postseason tournament against the Seminoles. The Jackets won the last meeting between the two teams in the tournament, 9-1, May 11, 2012 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Jackets own five ACC tournament titles, including three of the last five (2002, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2012). Tech has the second most tournament titles in the league (5) behind Florida State’s 10.
Fans unable to attend the tournament can watch the action as all seven games will be televised. Thursday’s and Friday’s games will be split between the league’s regional sports network and ESPN3, and the championship game on Saturday will be on ESPN2.
