Final Stats

ATLANTA – Fallon Stokes and Megan Isom recorded double-doubles and led five players in double figures in scoring as Georgia Tech (12-11, 3-8) defeated Virginia (12-11, 5-6), 65-55 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum Thursday night.

For the first time this season, Georgia Tech had two players record double-doubles as Isom scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while Stokes recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds in the contest. The Jackets also had five players in double-figures for the first time since they faced Maryland at the first part of January as Alex Stewart, Megan Harpring, and Jessica Williams each added 11 points apiece. Stewart finished the contest with six assists and five rebounds while Williams pulled down six boards for the Jackets.

“I was really proud of our team tonight,” said Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph. “I was proud of the way that we responded following the loss to Duke, and the fact that we had lost the last two games. It was really a team effort, having five players in double figures. It really showed how unselfish we were and how much we played like a team tonight.”

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with a 16-3 run, capped by a Kasha Terry jumper with 11:21 remaining to make the score 43-28 in favor of Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers fought back, pulling within four with 35 seconds remaining as LaTonya Blue hit a jumper to make the score 59-55. After mediocre free throw shooting all night, the Jackets made them when it counted, recording six consecutive from the charity stripe to conclude the game, with a pair by Stokes, Harpring, and Isom.

Virginia fell behind 13-6 early in the first half, but took the lead courtesy of a 12-0 run beginning at 12:09. Jessica Williams ended the Cavaliers run with a layup at 4:44 and, along with Stokes, went into the lockerroom leading the Jackets with seven points in the frame. Brandi Teamer came off the bench to lead the Cavaliers in the frame with seven points while Latonya Blue added five.

Teamer led the Cavaliers with 14 points as Blue added 12 and Kate Kreager, 10.

Georgia Tech will return to action Sunday afternoon when it hosts Maryland at AMC in a game that will tip-off at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WREK-Radio, 91.1 FM in Atlanta and online at www.wrek.org, while livestats for the game will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
