THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (12-12, 3-7 ACC) wrapped up competition at home with a dominating 4-0 victory over Notre Dame (13-12, 3-8 ACC) on Senior Day.
Tech earned an early lead with two wins in doubles play. Andres Martin and Keshav Chopra won their second match of the weekend with a 6-3 score against Notre Dame’s Connor Fu and Jean-Marc Malkowski. The Jackets clinched the doubles point behind an exciting victory from Marcus McDaniel and Brandon McKinney. The duo took down Notre Dame’s Noah Becker and Matthew Halpin in a 6-4 decision.
Tech’s success carried over into singles play as the team earned three-straight wins. No. 71 McDaniel started it off with an easy 6-2, 6-2 victory over Notre Dame’s Connor Fu.
No. 7 Martin continued his winning streak with another two-set victory in singles play. He defeated Notre Dame’s Aditya Vashistha 6-2, 6-4 and improved to 19-4 in dual match competition.
The match was ultimately decided by No. 91 Chopra’s results against Notre Dame’s Malkowski. Chopra took the first set in a 6-1 decision but had to battle it out in the second where he clinched the match with a 7-6 [8-6] victory.
