Tech Cross Country to Run at the Clemson Invitational

ATLANTA (Oct. 13) – Georgia Tech’s men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action Saturday at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C. The meet will be the final tune-up before the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship meet on November 1.

“Clemson has a very competitive course and with an always strong field, so we should have a good event as a good test before the ACC Championship meet,” said head coach Alan Drosky. “We will go in with our full teams and try to put together strong races together by both teams. We have had a good week of practice after a weekend off, so we will look to step it up at Clemson.”

In its last action, both men’s and women’s cross country teams each finished 10th, respectively, in the 63-team Auburn Bank Invitational October 1 at the Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Ala. Senior Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) finished 17th to pace the women’s team, while senior Brad Mills (Toledo, Ohio) was 22nd to lead the men’s team.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams won titles at the Georgia Intercollegiate Championships October 3 in Panthersville. The men’s team won its fourth consecutive and ninth of the decade, while the women’s team win their fourth consecutive and fifth of the ’90s. Tech’s women defeated Georgia State 25-30 as freshman Ginny Smith (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was the Division I individual winner and seventh overall in 20:12. Joe Poliseo (Oakland, N.J.) finished third in a time of 27:09 to lead the men, as Tech defeated Georgia State, 27-28.
