ATLANTA – In their final tune-up before the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to the Auburn Invitational Saturday at Indian Pines Golf Course.
The eight-kilometer men’s race, which features 27 teams, is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. CST. The 29-team women’s 5K will follow at 9 a.m. Joining the Jackets in the competition are the host Tigers, as well as Southeastern Conference opponents Georgia, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Ole Miss. Clemson, Iowa and Southern Methodist are also slated to compete.
Tech’s women’s team is coming off its seventh-consecutive title at the Georgia Intercollegiate Championships on October 5. Senior Katie Griffin won the individual crown and has been Tech’s top finisher in each of her three races this season. Joining Griffin in the lineup this week will be all-region classmate Amy Dock, who has yet to compete this season. Freshman Carly Matthews, senior Eboni Crosby and junior Neta Ezer and are all coming off strong races last time out.
On the men’s side, freshman Rob Kuhn has been Tech’s top finisher in all three of his races this season. He was the top Division I competitor at the recent Georgia Intercollegiate Championships, while senior Joe Poliseo and sophomore Adam Jones each posted top-10 Division I finishes. Senior track All-American Brendon Mahoney is also expected to race for the first time this season.
Following this weekend’s action, the Jackets will host the ACC Championships on November 2 at the Georgia Regional Hospital Cross Country Course.
