Tech Cross Country Places Ninth At ACC Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Both the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams placed ninth Saturday at the 2012 ACC Championships held in Blacksburg, Va. at the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course at Smithfield Plantation.

Florida State won their fifth-straight women’s title with 35 points, followed by Duke (67) and Boston College (82). The men’s race was tight with seven points separating the top three finishers. Virginia Tech claimed the top spot with 55 points, followed by Virginia 61) and Florida State (62).

Katie Townsend was the top finisher for the Tech women, running the 6K in a career-best time of 21:58 for 46th place. She was followed by Mary Kate DuBard (21:59, 47th), Katie Vance (personal-best 22:14, 56th), Kaylee Isaacs (22:25, 64th) and Caroline Kissel (22:28, 66th) to round out the top five finishers for the Yellow Jackets.

The Georgia Tech men were led by Shawn Roberts who logged a time of 25:14 for 51st place in the 8K. Jeremy Greenwald (career-best 25:32, 56th) crossed the line next for the Yellow Jackets followed by Alec Clifford (25:31, 59th), Brandon Lasater (25:46, 72nd) and Eric Powers (25:53, 74th).

The Jackets will return to action at the NCAA South Regional Championships on November 9 in Tallahassee, Fla.
