Tech Cross Country Heads to NCAA South Regionals

Georgia Tech’s cross country team will travel to Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday to compete in the NCAA South Regional Championships which will be held at the University of Florida Golf Course. The men’s 10K race will start at 10 a.m. and the women’s 6K race will follow at 11 a.m. In last year’s South Regionals, the men finished 10th while the women placed 17th.

The men’s team has two top-10 finishes on the year, placing second at the Mercer Invitational and sixth at the Florida State Invitational. The Jackets have been led by sophomore Nazar Trilisky with four consecutive finishes as Tech’s top runner and two top-20 overall finishes. Senior Rob Kuhn has also come on strong late in the season as he has placed second among the Jackets in the Chile Pepper Invitational and the ACC Championships. Other Jackets competing will be junior David Herren, and freshmen Will Bonn, Casey Gramling, Greg Johnson, and Matt Kinsel.

On the women’s side, Tech has four top-10 finishes in five events this season, including a first place finish at the Mercer Invitational and a third place finish at the Florida State Invitational. Sophomore Nisha Kurian has led the Jackets this year with two top-20 overall finishes and has also been Tech’s top finisher in the last four meets. She also finished 31st at the ACC Championships two weeks ago in Tallahassee, Fla. Another sophomore, Elena Linn, finished sixth overall at the Mercer Invitational and has finished in the top three among Jackets’ runners in all but one race this season. Juniors Mary Chind and Jenny Sims have consistently been at the top for Tech with Sims also placing fourth overall at the Mercer Invitational and Chind recording a top-20 overall finish at the Florida State Invitational. Also competing in the NCAA South Regionals for the Jackets will be senior Misty Dirksen, sophomore Maria Hampton, and freshman Katina Zuganelis.
