Tech Cross Country Heads To Crimson Classic Friday

Sept. 18, 2009

ATLANTA – After a weekend off from competition, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at the 21st annual Crimson Classic at the Harry Pritchett running park Friday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The women’s 5K is slated to begin at 5 p.m., with the men’s 8K to follow soon after.

“The Crimson Classic is going to be a good test for us,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “The competition will be very good and the course is an honest one, not too difficult but with some good challenges.”

The course, which also serves as the site of the 2009 NCAA South Region Championships, has provided some success for the Yellow Jackets in years past.

The women qualified for the NCAA National Championships on the same trail in 2000 and 2001, while winning the region in 2000.

The Tech men also qualified for the National Championships there in 2001.

Both sides will be at full strength this weekend, looking to shake of a rusty start in the season-opener at Georgia two weeks ago.

“We’re coming off a tough start to the season and I’m really interested to see how our men’s and women’s teams respond,” Drosky added. “I see good things happening in our training, but as will any sport, it really comes down to how you perform in competition.”
