ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech cross country program will look to continue its success at the Georgia Intercollegiate Championships Saturday when the Jackets travel to Georgia State’s Panthersville Course for the meet, which begins at 9 a.m.
Tech has dominated the Division I portion of this competition over the last few years. The Yellow Jacket men have placed first in 17 of the last 20 years, including the last 11 Georgia Intercollegiates in which they have participated. The Jackets did not compete in 1995.
The women’s team has enjoyed similar success, winning the event each year since ’95.
A year ago, both teams were victorious for Tech, with seniors Joey Zins and Amy Edwards placing first among Division I runners.
Leading the Tech women will be senior Katie Griffin, who has been the Jackets’ top runner in each of her two races this season. On the men’s side, freshman Rob Kuhn has been Tech’s top finisher in each of his runs in 2002.
The men’s eight-kilometer race will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the women’s 5K at 10 a.m. This meet will be the final race for Tech at Panthersville before the Jackets host the ACC Championships on November 2 on the same course.
Joining Tech in the Division I field will be Georgia State, Mercer and Morris Brown.
The top seven finishers among Division I runners earn all-state honors.
