Tech Concludes ITA Regionals Action

LAKE NONA, Fla. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis concluded play at the 2021 ITA Southeast Regionals on Saturday. Rosie Garcia Gross collected a round of 16 consolation win competing in the back draw.

Two Yellow Jackets competed in the singles main draw round of 16 with hopes of securing quarterfinal spots. No. 65 Ava Hrastar challenged No. 84 Emma Shelton (USC), dropping a pair of 6-3 sets to the Gamecock. Fellow teammate and doubles partner, Kylie Bilchev battled No. 15 Meg Kowalski of Georgia in the round of 16. Bilchev took the first set, 6-2, and rallied in the second, but Kowalski claimed the final two sets, 6-4, 6-1, to take the victory.

In doubles action, Hrastar and Bilchev partnered in the round of 16 to face Daevenia Achong and Eden Richardson of Miami. The opponents battled to the last point with the Hurricanes pulling out an 8-6 decision to claim a spot in the quarterfinals.

Three Yellow Jackets also competed in the consolation draw on Saturday with Garcia Gross pocketing a victory over Martina Kudelova (FAU). The Jacket rolled in the first set, 6-0, before Kudelova was forced to retire.

The Yellow Jackets return to action at the John Cade Invitational at Mississippi State, Nov. 5-7.
