AUBURN, Ala. – For the second-straight day, Georgia Tech divers Matt Casillas and Camryn Hidalgo made the finals in their respective events at the 2019 Zone B Diving Championships on Tuesday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
Hidalgo dove in the 1-meter, finishing 18th in prelims with a score of 247.25. She then moved up into 16th place in the finals by scoring 523.30 overall.
Seniors Casillas impressed in the 3-meter prelims, scoring a seventh-best 352.10 to start off the day. He then finished in finals with a score of 676.40 for 12th overall.
Also competing in the men’s 3-meter was Jacob Kreider and Henry Carman. Kreider turned in a prelim score of 306.05 while Carman recorded a 278.35.
Divers who finish in the top nine advance to Nationals in the women’s 1-meter and men’s platform, while the top eight qualify out of the women’s 3-meter and top seven from the men’s 3-meter. Finally, the top six will advance from the women’s platform and men’s 1-meter. Additionally, if divers qualify in one event, they can compete in events in which they finish in the top 12.
The Yellow Jackets will conclude on Wednesday, March 13, as Tech competes in men’s and women’s platform, beginning at 10 a.m. Representing Georgia Tech on the boards will be Casillas, Kelsey Dekshenieks and Hidalgo.
