Tech Concludes Competition at Bob Pollock Invite

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field teams concluded the second day of competition at the Bob Pollock Invite on Saturday, Jan. 28.

John Watkins and Shanty Papakosta recorded the best finishes of all Tech athletes. Watkins placed second in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.33m (50-3.5). Papakosta earned a third-place mark of 1.78m (5-10) in the women’s high jump.

Jamir Gibson, Omar Arnaout and Matthew Mazzacano also competed in field events. Gibson finished sixth in the men’s shot put (18.08m/59-4), Arnaout finished 10th in the men’s high jump (2.01m/6-7, PR) and Mazzacano came in eighth in the men’s pole vault (4.91m/16-1.25, PR).

In the women’s 3000 meters, Helena Lindsay ran a seventh-place time of 9:29.41 and Kate Jortberg ran an eighth-place time of 9:33.26. Abbey Green (9:47.65) and Mary Brady (9:48.18) finished in 16th and 17th place. On the men’s side, James Cragin and John Higinbotham records personal best times. Cragin (8:06.17) crossed the finish line in 11th place and Higinbotham (8:11.32) finished in 16th place.

Kayla Rose and Riley Perlakowski came in 11th and 12th place in the women’s 800m. Rose ran a time of 2:10.58 and Perlakowski recorded a time of 2:10.78. In the men’s 800m, Nick Nyman placed 13th with a time of 1:52.00 and Parker Buchheit finished in 17th place with a time of 1:52.54.

 

UP NEXT:

Tech will be back in action next weekend at the South Carolina Invite. Competition will take place on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4 in Columbia, S.C.
