Tech Breaks School Record in 4x200 at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The women’s 4×200-meter relay team of Ashlee Kidd, Dana Rogers, Shanta Smith and Amandi Rhett posted a school record time of 1:34.80 at the Florida Relays to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams this afternoon. Kidd, Rhett, Rogers and Brandy Depland tallied NCAA Region qualifying times at the outdoor track meet. The Florida Relays will conclude tomorrow afternoon.

Kidd finished first in the 400 meters with a NCAA Region qualifying time of 53.47.

In the 100-meter dash, Rhett tallied a NCAA Region qualifying time of 11.71 to lead the Yellow Jackets with a fourth-place finish. Sophomore Andriane Lapsley finished eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 11.83 to move on to the finals tomorrow.

Rogers and Lapsley both qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles with times of 13.68 and 13.87, respectively. Rogers’ time was good enough to qualify her for the NCAA Region Championships.

Leading the men’s track and field team was junior Neil McDonagh. McDonagh finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.68.

Depland posted a personal-best mark of 19’09.75″ in the long jump to finish third for the Rambling Wreck.

Rounding out top-eight finishers for the Jackets was junior Ameca Williams and sophomore Simone Parker. Williams finished eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.12, while Parker finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 150’09”.
