Tech Back in Action at Kentucky Invitational

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams return to competition after a month-long hiatus as they travel to Lexington for the Kentucky Invitational Friday-Saturday, Jan. 11-12. The two-day indoor meet will be held at the at the E.J. Nutter Field House on the University of Kentucky campus.

Competition begins Friday at 6 p.m. ET with the women’s weight throw and continues Saturday morning with the women’s high jump at 10:30 a.m. ET.

“We kick off our spring semester with the Kentucky Invitational each year and are always excited about it,” women’s head coach Alan Drosky said. “It’s a great venue with solid competition. Coming off the holiday break, the team is rested and ready to go. We’ll use the early season meets to get race sharp.”

Along with Tech, other teams participating at the event include: Alabama (women only), Arkansas State, Eastern Kentucky, Furman, Kentucky, Kentucky State, Marshall (women only), Michigan (women only), Middle Tennessee State, Ohio State (women only), Tennessee (women only), Vanderbilt (women only), Western Kentucky, and Wright State.

“As in the past several years, the Kentucky Invitational will host a strong field of teams,” men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale added. “We always look forward to competing in this meet at Kentucky’s excellent facility.”

The men’s and women’s teams opened their indoor season in early December at the Clemson Opener. Senior James Lemons II led the men’s squad by placing first in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 52 feet, 4 ¾ inches. The women’s team enjoyed the collegiate debut of Erica Penk, who finished first in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
