ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech swimming & diving teams hosts their final meet of the 2009-10 season on Saturday against Emory. Action gets underway at 11 a.m. at the Aquatic Center.
The meet, which is the last for the Yellow Jackets before next month’s ACC Championships, will also be the final home meet for 13 Georgia Tech seniors. They include, for the men, Ilia Ayzenshtok, Kelsey Duffy, Johnny Hagaman, Way Joe Lee, Gal Nevo and Will Woodworth. The seven women senior swimmers and divers are Taylor Flynn. Dalton Hedberg, Ryann Kopacka, Hannah Krimm, Agatha Kwasnik, Jing Li and Lisa Pucci.
“We’re very excited for the 13 seniors who are closing out their careers here at Tech on Saturday,” said swimming head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “It’s our last meet before the ACC Championships, so we’re looking forward to seeing where we’ve improved.
“Emory is a strong team who we are not taking litely. Hopefully, the fans coming out on Saturday will see some solid competition on both sides.”
The Yellow Jacket men come into their last dual meet of the season with a 4-6 overall mark, while the women are 4-7-1 overall. Both the men’s and women’s squads dropped dual meets to Virginia Tech and Florida State last Saturday.
Despite the losses, the Yellow Jackets still had some impressive individual performance on the afternoon. For the men, senior Gal Nevo won two events (200-fly, 200-IM). Nevo has now won five events in the last two meets Georgia Tech has participated in. Also, sophomore Nigel Plummer was a winner in the 50 free.
On the women’s side, diver Krimm continued her impressive season with a second place finish in the three-meter springboard and a third place finish in the three-meters.
Saturday morning’s dual meet will consist of 16 events with the 200-medley and free relays, the 1000 freestyle and the 400 IM. Fans can follow the meet via the live stats link at www.RamblinWreck.com.
