Swimming & Diving Set To Host ACC Championships

Feb. 19, 2008

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech is set to host the ACC Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships beginning tomorrow at the Campus Recreation Center. Admission is free. The women’s swimming and both diving championships will be Wednesday, Feb. 20-Saturday, Feb. 23, while the men’s swimming events will be Feb. 27-March 1. Finals begin each night at 7:00 PM for swimming and 5:15 PM for diving, while prelims begin each Thursday through Saturday at 11:00 AM. Doors to the CRC will open one hour before each session.

Fans unable to make it in person can follow the championships on the web via live stats and live video through ACC Select.

“We are excited about hosting the ACC Championships,” said Tech Head Coach Stu Wilson. “We hope a lot of the fans will come out and support the Yellow Jackets as there’s going to be a lot of great swims from all of the schools this weekend.”

The Tech women finished ninth at last year’s championship while the men came in sixth. The women’s best finish since the inception of the program in 2002 was sixth (2003, 2004, 2005). The men have finished as high as second (2002) and own six top five finishes since the championship began in 1980.

Action begins on Wednesday, Feb. 20, with the 200-medley relay and the 800-free relay. On Thursday, Feb. 21, prelims and finals will be held in the 500-free, 200-IM and 50-free, while prelims and finals in the 400-IM, 100-fly, 200-free, 100-breast and 100-back will take place on Friday, Feb. 22. Action will wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 23, with prelims and finals in the 200-back, 100-free, 200-breast, 200-fly and 1650-free.

Seven Tech swimmers have already set NCAA B-cuts this year while six divers have qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships. There have been six new school records set this year so far.
