THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming & diving team will open its season at the GT Aquatic Center with the Breast Cancer Awareness meet as they play host to Penn State and Liberty on Friday at 4 p.m. Friday will also be Professor Appreciation Day.
The Jackets will be highlighted by captains Shannon Lumbra, Frederique Lefebvre, Yuval Safra and Ricky Lehner. Lumbra and Lehner both set school records last season, with Lumbra setting the 1-meter dive record and Lehner setting the 400 medley relay record.
Friday’s meet will also feature freshman Iris Wang, who competed for China in the London Olympic Games in 2012 and took home fourth place in the 4×100 freestyle relay. Wang also earned medals at the Chinese National Championships, Swimming World Cup Series and East Asian Games before arriving at Tech.
“We’re excited to finally get the 2015-16 season started,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said. “Penn State and Liberty provide us with great opening competition. We’ve worked very hard in the offseason, and we’re excited to open up the season at home.”
“Friday is our Breast Cancer Awareness meet, as well as Professor Appreciation Day. We expect a number of professors in the crowd, and we appreciate them for supporting our student athletes, both inside and outside of the classroom.”
