Swimming & Diving Honored For Academic Excellence

July 18, 2013

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech has been recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for outstanding academics, as both the men’s and women’s teams were presented CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Awards and nine individuals were honored.

The Yellow Jacket men posted the nation’s 10th-highest grade point average of 3.35 last semester and the women’s team checked in with a 3.24 GPA. Any Division-I team with a 3.0 team GPA or better receives the CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Award.

Individually, Andrew Chetcuti, Eric Chiu, Andrew Kosic and Nico van Duijn were honored on the Scholar All-America First Team, while Shannon Lumbra, Kate Riley, Ricky Lehner, Brandon Makinson and Yuval Safra were named to the honorable mention.

To be recognized, a student-athlete must have posted a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the most recent semester. To qualify for the first team, a student athlete must have competed in the NCAA Championship that year. Honorable mention accolades are presented to those that achieved a “B” time standard, but did not compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets.
