BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Georgia Tech Swimming & Diving teams began the season with a pair of convincing wins over Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast Universities Saturday afternoon at the FAU pool. The women’s team defeated FAU 201.50-93.50 and FGCU 177.0-123.0. The men, meanwhile, defeated FAU 204.50-93.50.
“This was a great team effort today,” head coach Stu Wilson said. “Everybody did an excellent job racing and I can already see how their hard training has paid off. This tells me that they are very focused early in the season and I know we will continue to get better as the season progresses.”
Heidi Hatteberg, Lisa Pucci, Agatha Kwasnik and Noah Copeland each won two swimming events apiece for the Jackets. In diving, Hannah Krimm and Jacob Tzegaegbe won both the one-meter and three-meter events. Krimm has already qualified for the NCAA Zone meet as she won the one-meter (286.85) and three-meter (301.05) events. For the men, Tzegaegbe also won both events with scores of 250.95 and 224.20, respectively.
The day began with both the men’s and women’s squads winning the 200-yard medley relay. The women’s team of Hatteberg, Pucci, Jordan Evans and Kwasnik won in a time of 1:48.09, while the men’s squad of Ilia Ayzenshtok, Mickey Malul. Sullivan Lynch and Garrett Robberson touched the wall in 1:34.31.
In the 200-free, Sarah Broadley (1:52.37) won on the women’s side, while Copeland (1:41.15) was victorious for the men. Hatteberg (58.49) was victorious in the 100-back, while Pucci won the 100-breast in a time of 1:07.36. Malul won the 100-breats for the men in a time of 57.60.
Also victorious for the Yellow Jackets were Ralph Long (1:53.47 in the 200-fly), Kwasnik (24.24 in the 50-free), Robberson (21.07 in the 50-free), Kwasnik (51.75 in the 100-free), Copeland (45.73 in the 100-free), Hatteberg (2:05.29 in the 200-back), Pucci (2:27.08 in the 200-breast) and Matthew Vaughan (2:10.38 in the 200-breast).
To close out the meet, the Tech team of Roberson, Lynch, Johnny Hagaman and Long were victorious in the 400-free relay. They finished in a time of 3:10.36.
Georgia Tech will return to action on October 10 with a dual ACC meet at Clemson.
